About South Western Railway:
Southern Western Railway came into operation on 1st April 2003. Their headquarters is in HUBLI. It is the last railway zone constructed in Indian Railway. Southern Western Railway is divided into 3 divisions i.e. Bangalore, Hubli, Mysore and 4th division work has already been started which is at Gulbarga. Railway authorities are plan to add more lines and rails in this zone. Southern Western Railway has more foot print in Karnataka.
Southern Western Railway has only 5% of electrified or double board gauge line and the Karnataka state is working on it. In fact they have recently doubled up certain line i.e. Mysore – Bangalore, Bangalore – Yeliyur which has opened lot of traffic which was a major problem sometime back. But the work on other lines is very super slow. Hubli being the headquarters the line between Hubli and Gadag is in progress and yet to be completed.
Southern Western Railway is adapting technologies to share reports, documents and other work, this will surely help them to save papers. Mysore is soon going to be given the designation of “Digital Division”. All the officials will start using Google Drive to exchange their documents and files. Railway authorities have launched two web helplines to pass information amongst the departments. A new software is being made to maintain records of passengers, hygiene, electronics etc. And this process will help in reducing the quantity of registers made and all the clerical work. The Government is aggressively following the measures on reducing the use of Paper.
