About Northern Railway:
Northern Railway started its operation in the year 1952 and is one prominent zone among the 17 zones of Indian Railways. The headquarter of Norther Railways is in New Delhi and consists of 5 Divisions-Ambala, Delhi, Ferozpur, Lucknow and Moradabad. Norther railway is the largest in its route kilometres out of the total railways zones with over 6807 kilometre routes and covers the states of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana,Uttaranchal, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. The Northern railways came in to existence as result of merging happened between Jodhpur Railway, Bikaner Railway, Eastern Punjab Railway and three divisions of the East Indian Railway and north-west of Mughalsarai (Uttar Pradesh).

It covers many attractive tourist places in India.The first zone to introduce the computerized passenger reservation system was Northern Railways in India. The Northern Railways introduced the first diesel and electric locomotive simulators in India at the Tughlaqabad and Kanpur locomotive sheds which was also a feather in the history of Railways.
The General Manager heads the Northern Railways and the divisions under are headed by Divisional Railway managers who will be based at the divisional headquarters and are located at Ambala in Haryana, Delhi, Firozpur in Punjab, Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh and Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh.Shri A.K.Puthia is the General Manager and Shri S.K. Pathak is the Additional General Manager of Northern Railways.
