About Mumbai Metro MMRCL:
The whole idea behind starting Mumbai Metro is to give quick transport system to the city of Mumbai. The structure is planned in such a way that it decreases the traffic in the city and gives an add-on travel mode to highly crowded Mumbai Suburban Railway. Mumbai Metro is planned in three phases and will take around 15 years to complete the entire project. Line 1 which came into operation on 8th June 2014 is operated by Mumbai Metro One Pvt. Ltd (MOOPL) and it’s a joint venture by Reliance Infrastructure, Transdev and RATP Development. In 2006, then PM Mr. Manmohan Singh placed the foundation for the first phase of Mumbai Metro.
Phase 1 links Versova Andheri Western Suburbs to Ghatkopar eastern Suburbs. Phase 1 of Mumbai Metro has in total 12 station, named Versova, D.N.Nagar, Azad Nagar, Andheri, W. E. H., Chakala, Airport Road, Marol Naka, Saki Naka, Asalpha, Jagruti Nagar and Ghatkopar.
Phase 2 links Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd and is planned to get 27 stations. The construction was stopped due to non-existence of carsheds at Charkop and Mankhurd. It was in September 2012 that MMRDA had issued a letter to Reliance Infrastructure requesting them to either start with the metro work or to be ready for the legal formalities. To which they wrote back saying government and MMRDA were responsible in getting the work delayed. On November 2014. Reliance Infrastructure said that they have ended the agreement. In June 2015 MMRDA declared that Line 2 will be finished in 3 parts. Phase 3 will be first underground metro which links from Cuff Parade to Seepz on a stretch of 33.50 Kilometers.
