About Tripura High Court
The Tripura High Court came into existence in March 2013 which is the High Court of state Tripura. The seat of the High Court is located at Agartala. Justice Deepak Gupta is the first chief justice of the Tripura High Court. Previously a bench of the Gauhati High Court used to possess jurisdiction over the state of Tripura. The functions of those Courts were partly judicial and partly legislative.
The Maharajas constituted a State Council for the purpose of enacting the law. To hear the appeal of the Maharaja 3 members were incorporated which was Privy Council. It is often taped in the Tripura District Gazetters that the judgments of the Courts which was announced by the Maharaja were not susceptible to the revision by any Officer of the British Government. By an effort of the Constitution of Court Act, corresponding to 1908 a number of courts was established in the sub-divisional level. The Chief Court with its unique and appellate sides was also developed. The language which was used in all courts was Bengali.
With effect from March 23, 2013 the Himachal Pradesh High Court Judge Hon’ble Mr Justice Deepak Gupta has been appointed to be the Chief Justice of the High Court of Tripura. The other Hon’ble judges from the Gauhati High court became the Judges of the Tripura High Court.
